GOOD AS GOLD PROGRAM

The Good as Gold Program is a classroom management program that is designed to promote the “C-Hawk Advantage” of Lawrence Elementary among students.

This Good as Gold Program agreement is entered into effect as of Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011between                                          and the fifth grade teachers and staff of E.O. Lawrence Elementary.

 1. BEGINNING OF THE WEEK
At the start of each week, students will be given 15 bucks when they have shown that they have brought back their:

Friday Folder

Planner

Homework and/or other important items as required by the teacher

This requirement is to encourage student responsibility, so a loss of 5 bucks will be enforced for each of the three categories listed if missing or forgotten.

2. LOSS OF BUCKS
The importance of the Good as Gold Program is to promote positive and appropriate behavior among students. Our goal is to create a community in our school. Therefore, students who are demonstrating inappropriate behaviors may lose bucks as decided by the teacher or staff.

Possible situations where a student may lose one buck:

o   Forgetting items when rotating

o   Forgetting their planner during the week

o   Sharpening pencils during class

Possible situations where a student may lose more than one buck:

o   A student is disrespectful to classmates, the teacher, or other staff members

o   Getting into another student’s belongings (i.e. desk, or locker)

o   Inappropriate physical conduct

o   Not using positive hall behavior as determined by the teacher

o   Not using good listening skills when the teacher or another student(s) are talking

DISCLAIMER: The Good as Gold Program is used as a way to run the everyday routines and activities of the classroom. Therefore, the teacher or staff member will use his or her judgment to determine what is disrespectful or inappropriate in the school. Further, depending on the severity of the behavior, the teacher may determine another course of action is necessary. The possible actions would be: first, a student losing a recess, followed by a parent being contacted through e-mail or a phone call, and finally by having to visit the principal.

3. REWARDS IN THE GOOD AS GOLD PROGRAM
At the end of each month, the fifth grade teachers will put on an event or activity for students to buy a ticket to attend or participate in. This will usually occur on the last Friday of the month, but dates are not set in stone. Students who do not have enough bucks will have an alternative study hall during this time. This is a way for the teachers and staff to show our appreciation for the students and their hard work .

Friday Folders

Each student will have an envelope that they will be bringing home on Fridays. This "Friday Folder" will contain work and any tests that we have completed that week. I ask that you sign the tests AND the "Friday Folder" envelope on the appropriate line. Please have your child return any signed tests and the envelope to school the following Monday. The corrected daily assignments DO NOT have to be returned. If tests are sent home during the middle of the week, please sign and return ASAP, and don't wait for the Friday Folder to return it.

It is my hope that this process will help give parents the opportunity to see what we are working on in school and how their child is progressing each week. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your help and cooperation.

ACCELERATED READER

This is a reading program in which a child reads a book and then takes a computerized quiz over it.  Students are awarded points based upon the questions answered correctly.  Each month your child will need to earn points for part of their reading grade and this also counts towards the Book-It/ Pizza Ranch coupon program, and for a monthly reward from the Lawrence Library.  This will start in September and each student will need to earn 5 points by the end of that month.  From there on we work with each student to set up realistic individualized goals each month after.
